We are a little more that 24 hours away from the release of the long awaited Deadpool. This movie has had a tumultuous road to the big screen, but thanks to the sheer will and perseverance of Ryan Reynolds and the creators, they have finally made it and are ready to delight film fans the world over. The last week has been a whirlwind for Deadpool and Fox studios as the initial word from press screenings is insanely positive, with a Rotten Tomatoes score well over 80% currently. We have known for sometime that director Tim Miller and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have had ideas in place for a sequel should 20th Century Fox give them the green light. Well now THR is officially reporting that Fox has given that greenlight and Deadpool 2 is now a go.
Writers Reese and Wernick bust onto the scene a few years ago with Zombieland, which showcased their wit and tenacity to provide unflinching comedy in the face of horror. Tim Miller on the other hand has made his debut with Deadpool, before that mostly directing video games and tv ads. With the apparent and predicted success of Deadpool, THR is reporting that Fox is looking to keep the whole creative team together for the sequel, and of course Ryan Reynolds will be making his return as well.
The tracking for Deadpool has them looking at a potential $65-70 million opening weekend which would make the execs at Fox quite happy, given the Merc’s R rating has it angling amore niche market. So what could be on the horizon for Deadpool? Well we know that Reynolds is looking to focus on an X-Force movie, so it’s likely that the Sequel will bring Cable into the fold. To know exactly what could be coming we will have to wait an see, but the fact that a sequel has been greenlit should make us all happy.
