For the mess that Batman v Superman is, one of the bright spots in Ben Affleck’s Batman, which has raised excitement towards what could be, moving forward in the DC cinematic universe. Most fans want to know one thing, will we get a Batman stand alone directed by and starring Ben Affleck? Well we have some happy promising news on that front. Last year the rumor was surfacing that Affleck was mulling over the possibility of directing a standalone Batman film developing some ideas with DC Entertainment GCO Geoff Johns. The idea was that not only would Affleck direct, but he was going to handle the script writing as well making him the writer, director and star of the film. Now William Morris Endeavor co-CEO Patrick Whitesell has stated that Affleck has indeed written a script already.
In an Interview with THR Whitesell reveals how many films Affleck is under contract through DC as the Dark Knight:
“He’s contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape,” he says, adding, “there’s a script that he’s written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that’s out there as an option.”
For those way weary of the idea behind Affleck taking on all of these responsibilities, keep in mind that Affleck already has two Oscars, one for co-writing Good Will Hunting, and another for his work on Argo (which won best picture). Affleck is certainly a big star, but he is even greater talent behind the lens, and is no slouch with a pen and pad either, as he also wrote The Town, and Gone Baby Gone, the former of which he starred in and directed as well. The prospect of Affleck helming a Batman stand alone film should breed great excitement from fans.
That said, Affleck is a very busy man. He is only contractually obligated to appear in Justice League Part 1 and 2, and is currently in post production for his latest directorial effort Live By Night. The good news is that Justice League part 2 is not slated to release until 2019, so there is a small chance that, if he’s up for it, he can shoot a Batman stand alone sometime next year possibly. So while we are holding out hope, it is an outside chance, since Affleck is a very busy man. On top of that, Warner Brothers has made no announcement regarding a Batman stand alone, so nothing is scheduled currently. So while we all wait in anticipation to see if Batfleck will step up and deliver his own iteration of the Dark Knight, we will have to settle for Batman v Superman and the upcoming Suicide Squad.
So what do you guys think of the comments? Would you want to see a Batman stand alone film directed by Affleck? Drop a comment and let us know what you think.
