It’s no secret Ben Affleck is currently one of the most sought after directors in Hollywood. His film Argo won best picture Oscar, and as a result he solidified his status as a great director. Since Argo, Affleck has not been behind the camera, until now. His follow up to the Oscar winning historical drama is the upcoming Live By Night, is a prohibition era crime thriller. The road to getting the film made has been long and arduous. First the production was pushed back when Affleck took the role in David Fincher’s Gone Girl, then was pushed again when Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder came a calling to have him take up the mantle of the bat in the upcoming Batman v Superman. It was a wonder if this film would ever begin principle photography, but last fall cameras began to roll, and Affleck found a way to balance his time and work on his directorial follow up to his Oscar winning film, and now finally, production has wrapped on the film.
Affleck recently release an on set image of the shoot revealing him and his cinematographer Robert Richardson speaking between takes. The set photo shows Affleck in full costume, donning the cloth of the era.

No release date has been set for the film, though it is likely to come out either later this year, to make another Oscar push, or potentially next year to do the same. Live By Night is directed by Affleck and stars himself alongside Zoe Saldana, Elle Fanning, Sienna Miller, Chris Messina, Chris Cooper, Scott Eastwood, and Brendan Gleeson.
