Realistically, who isn’t excited for Captain America Civil War? It’s easily one of the most anticipated films of 2016. What a lot of people are touting as Avengers 2.5, Civil War will feature a slew of character from the Marvel roster, but Chris Evans is here to tell you that this is no Avengers movie. In a recent interview with Disney Twenty-Three, a D23 gold member magazine, Evans talks about how this is still a Steve Rogers centered story.
“Even though there are a lot characters, the focus is on Steve and his struggle. Especially his struggle with Tony Stark…It’s exciting to see a guy who’s as optimistic and as selfless as Steve be met with letdown, betrayal, frustration, and selfishness. There are events and people in his life that test him — that challenge him and force him to reevaluate who he is and what he wants out of life.”
The Winter Soldier saw Rogers betrayed and faced with great uncertainty as it seemed everything he had built was dismantled. It’ll be interesting to see just how he regains his sense of self, especially coming off of Age of Ultron, which saw an entirely new team. Rogers has been burned the most out of anyone so far in the MCU, which includes betrayal at the hands of his closest allies like Tony Stark, who’s antics lead to Ultron coming to life. The trailers indicate that Rogers is being restrained due to an event that is seemingly sparked by the resurgence of Bucky. Between the return of Bucky, and the Slovakia accords, which will bring forth new measures of accountability for heroes, it seems Rogers. The film is going to be epic and the trailers have been great so far, really showcasing the divide.
Marvel studios head Kevin Feige had this to say:
“We’ve seen it coming. The clues were there. When you watch the other films you see how Captain America and Iron Man fight the bad guys together, back-to-back, but they have differences. And there is something that happens in the world that divides them.”
Captain America Civil War is set to release May 6th this year.
