Your weekly guide to all the biggest movies releasing in theaters and VOD, and whether or not to see it based on the 2 way rating system of either “No Bro” or “Go Bro.” With the goal of trying to separate the upcoming films into two categories including:
Wide Release; The films opening nationwide, likely the easiest films to find.
Indie Release; The best low budget independent films opening at some smaller theaters.
So heres what’s opening at a theater near you this week
Furious 7 is a film that will just not give up. Again taking the top spot last week, it has now amassed over 1.3 billion dollars and is slotted at 5th all time in box office revenue. What is even more shocking is that Paul Blart hung on to number 2. Age of Adaline snagged the number 3 spot proving that even women cannot topple the goofy Kevin James. What is great news is that Ex Machina came in at number 6 with over 6 million dollars! Now comes the real hard hitting question: Can Furious 7 hang on to the number 1 spot this week? Okay it’s a dumb question, and below is the reason why.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
I mean come on! This is finally the week that Furious 7 will be dethroned. Avengers is all set to break numerous records at the box office, and if it’s as good as it looks, will bring in a lot of repeat business. Is there anyone who truly believes this won’t beat out Furious 7? This is the must see film of the summer. Actually it’s the must see film of the year! The question is not “Will Avengers be number 1” but instead “for how long will it be, and how many records will it break?”
Far From The Maddening Crowd
Avengers is the only big budget film to open this week and for very good reason, its the Avengers. That being said there are some smaller films releasing as well and one of them is the interesting Far From The Maddening Crowd. Starring Carey Mulligan, Tom Sturridge, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Michael Sheen, this is quite an fascinating twist on the classic period piece film. Telling the story of an independently wealthy woman and her struggle to settle on love with one of the three men vying for her affection. This actually looks like it could be a solid film. The cast is extraordinary and the setting looks beautiful. This a great example of counter programming against the action packed Avengers.
Welcome To Me
This is one that you will likely not see near you this week, but if you live near a theater playing this little gem, go check it out. Bro Knows may be a little biased as we have seen this one already, and let me tell you it is completely worth it! Starring the hilarious Kristen Wiig as the lead character. Welcome To Me is about a strange and mentally ill woman who wins the mega millions goes off her meds and buys her own talk show. That is a funny premise bolstered by a talented cast that includes Tim Robbins, James Marsden,Wes Bentley, and Joan Cusack.
DVD/VOD Pick of the Week
The story of a fish out of water, or in this case bear, Paddington is delightful fun for the whole family!
There you have it folks! Those are the films opening near you this week. Are you guys planning n attending any f these this weekend? I can tell you Bro Knows has tickets fir Avengers ready to go for tomorrow. Drop a comment and let’s start a discussion.
