Mel Gibson’s recent Oscar nomination for Best Director have sparked the embers of a potential resurgence in front of the lens for the once laming star. He has been able to make some waves in smaller films like last years Blood Father, which was surprisingly good. So what could be Gibson’s next acting role? Daddy’s Home 2! We promise we’re not being facetious, this is a real thing that might actually happen. Daddy’s Home was a cooky comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrel as dueling dads trying to win the hearts of 2 adorable little kids.

According to Deadline, the sequel now has an official release date, set to hit theaters on November 10th, this year. That would sandwich the film between Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League, which is tough territory. That said, the original Daddy’s Home battled with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and managed to perform admirably as counter programming. John Lithgow has seen a bit of a resurgence himself of late, earning some awards consideration for his role as Winston Churchill in the Netflix original The Crown.

So now the ultimate question becomes, are the movie going public ready to see Mel Gibson in a comedic role, and pay real money to watch it? His personal issues aside, the guy is a supremely talented performer and even more talented behind the camera. It would actually be kind of nice to see him pop up a bit more. It will definitely be interesting to him play off of Lithgow and the two original stars with Wahlberg and Ferrell. Her is hoping this is a step in the right direction for Gibson endearing himself to fans, and distancing himself from his controversial past.
