It was gone as soon quickly as it came. Sad news for Tron fans to report. Disney has unfortunately backed off the Tron sequel. This is not cool Disney.
A while back the company launched plans to continue on with the franchise as director Joseph Kosinski and stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde were all set to return to the digital world. There was also speculation that Jared Leto was being courted to co star in the film, perhaps as the new villain, and Olivia Munn was also in talks as well. The cast and director set to reprise while adding noticeable talent, its a mystery why Disney would cancel their plans for another Tron film.
According to Disney executives they had actually never greenlit the film, but it was in the early stages of development. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news of the cancellation, and other executives were quoted saying that the upcoming slate is just too vast and expensive that they just couldn’t find a time or a place to fit it in.
This is definitely unsettling news if you’re fan of the the Tron series, and there is still hope that Disney will revisit the property again, let’s just hope it doesn’t take another 30 years.
So what do you guys out in Bro Nation think of the cancellation? Were you excited for another Tron movie? Drop a comment and let’s start a discussion!
