Our hearts sunk when earlier this week i was reported that Mad Max creator and director George Miller was quoted stating he was not planning on revisiting the franchise, at least to direct, again. Considering how incredible Mad Max: Fury Road turned out, this was a sad day for film fans. However, it would appear that the article reporting this was essentially a bunch of mularkey! Miller has now come out and stated that he was misquoted and is indeed planning on returning to his beloved franchise and has two more installments in the works!
Here is what Miller said to The Wrap:
“That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review…She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another ‘Mad Max’ movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another ‘Mad Max.’ It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.”
This is music to our ears. The vivid symphony of color and sound that was Mad Max: Fury Road is due in large part to Miller’s direction. The idea of a new installment in the franchise without Miller at the helm just doesn’t feel right. He does say he does not know if it will be next though, which has us worried, because the man is in his 70’s. Whatever Miller does next *cough cough, Man of Steel 2* we will be over the moon excited for. The positive takeaway is that Miller will be back to this franchise, and we seriously can’t wait!
