Kingsman: The Secret Service was a terrific surprise. It opened the world up to a budding star in Taron Egerton and proved that Colin Firth can be badass. It was no surprise when a sequel to the smash hit was greenlit. One of the many positives for the original was a unique and original villain. Samuel Jackson was menacing, interesting and funny as hell as Richmond Valentine. It was the type of villainous role that movie fans long for. He was a complex man who truly believed he was doing the right thing. It created a refreshing take on a classic tale, Valentine was so concerned climate change that he wa willing to sacrifice most of humanity to solve one of the earth’s growing issues. So how on earth do you top a villain the caliber of a Valentine? Well Vaughn and company are taking the steps to show everyone how.

THR has reported that none other than Julianne Moore Is currently in negotiations to play the next villain in the Kingsman franchise. The sequel will return Matthew Vaughn as the director an Egerton as the lead. Collider met up with Egerton a little bit ago and he discussed how he thinks Kingsman 2’s villain is even better than Richmond Valentine.

“With Kingsman 2, we’re shooting in the summer at present. There’s a script, it’s brilliant. Obviously there’s only so much I can say but what I can say is that we shot [the first] one all in the U.K., that won’t be the case with the next one. It’s a far more international story, we’re going to some incredible places, and we have a villain to rival Samuel L. Jackson—this new one is so brilliantly written I wish I could play it. It’s amazing.”

THR has also reported that the idea of Colin Firth potentially returning to the franchise in the sequel is unfortunately not happening. It is sad to not see him come back but the emergence of Egerton as a star on the rise should keep fans happy. Moore is inspired casting, and f they are able to lock her down it would be epic. She is an academy award winning actress with immense talent and the idea of her as a villain in this universe is compelling to say the least. The fear is that Moore will just simply be too busy to take on another role like this. She is slated to star in the upcoming children’s book adaptation Wonderstruck and s also preparing to star opposite Matt Damon and George Clooney in the upcoming Suburbicon, written by the Coen Brothers.
