Cloverfield was the found footage film shrouded in secrecy produced by JJ Abrams. 10 Cloverfield Lane is the film shrouded in secrecy also produced by JJ Abrams and may or may not be a direct or indirect sequel to the former. In a crazy stunt a few weeks ago, Bad Robot pictures dropped a trailer, without warning, for 10 Cloverfield Lane in front of 13 Hours. The trailer was not found footage and at first glance just sort of seemed like a confined mystery story until in the waning moments of the preview when the title card appears revealing the words 10 Cloverfield Lane, leaving the audience in complete disarray. Could this be the long awaited sequel to the surprise hit film, or is this just a wink and a nod and actually has little to nothing to do with the film that shares a similar title? Well we still really don’t have any definitive answers but we did get a little more footage via the Super Bowl spot yesterday!
Check out the trailer!
JJ Abram released an official statement when the project was officially announced
“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
We still have no idea what exactly the term “blood relative” means in relation to the previous film, but this trailer takes us out of the bunker and reveals a roar that sounds eerily similar to that of the Cloverfield monster. The SB50 spot was pretty amazing and is helping provide a little more insight but there are still so many unanswered question. Luckily we won’t be waiting long as the film is slated to come out next month on March 11th!
