It’s an age old debate, one that has surely caused disagreements, formed unlikely bonds and has possibly caused physical harm. This debate includes two of the most popular topics in the country, Sports and Movies and in particular, sports based movies. Everyone you know either loves sports, movies or both and if not, they’re probably a psychopath and you should stop being their friend. I’m here to settle this debate once and for all.

Here are my top 10 Sports movies listed in order. There were several variables taken into account when making this list. First and foremost was the movie a good watch or was it trash? This is obviously a major factor. Second, was the story based on a true story and did it depict the story accurately or did it stretch the truth to make the movie work? i.e. “Rudy” which for some reason is loved but it’s actually absolutely fabricated, and trash. Along with many other factors that made this list possible.

Let’s get started.

10. The Sandlot (1993)

Summertime, best friends, baseball and your average neighborhood beast of a dog who is keeping your step dads prized Babe Ruth signed baseball hostage. This is a classic feel good movie that brings you back to a simpler time to running around with your best friends with no other responsibilities other than being a kid. I have this at 10 because I had to, you simply cannot have a list like this without talking about Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez and his PF Flyers being involved.

9. Moneyball (2011)

A movie based on the 2002 Oakland Athletics and the analytical way of managing a baseball team on a budget. General Manager Billy Beane who is played in the movie by Brad Pitt, loses his three best players in one off season to teams who can pay them top dollar for their services. This movie picks up in that off season with Beane consulting with Jonah Hills character, Peter Brand who helped construct the idea of “Moneyball” which was buying low on players who were given up on and utilizing them for their specific skill set that are often times overlooked by other teams. Everyone called Beane crazy for this until his A’s end up winning the division and Beane looks like a genius. This movie ranks up there because of the accuracy of the movie, the names, the teams, the scenarios are all super accurate and the story line does not try to do too much. It’s a very good sports movie overall.
