Cinematic universes, and the studios that are trying to build them out of nothing, is a sign of the times. So when New Line says that the creepy *Spoiler alert* evil nun from The Conjuring 2 is going to get a spin off, it should come as no surprise. It seems that this studio is trying their hardest to develop some kind of shared universe for the franchise, and it might actually not be a bad idea. It could go the way of Star Wars, where we get an Ed and Lorraine story, then a spin off, and so on. That said, The nun was easily one of the coolest and most terrifying elements of the latest film, and if you haven’t already checked out our review for the movie then click here! What are you waiting for!
THR has reported that the nun will be getting it’s own spinoff written by Conjuring 2 co-writer David Leslie-Johnson. The last spinoff, Annabelle, was released in 2014, just one year after the original Conjuring film, so it’s likely we will get the same with this untitled creepy nun flick. This spinoff would also give the Conjuring team some extra time to work out the details for sequel to the Conjuring 2, which is seeing a ton of early success at the box office. No additional info or specifics are known at this time, but it should be fun to see the nun terrifying audiences in her own movie.
“They do have a lot of stories so I think, organically, if we’re lucky enough to tell future chapters, there’s a lot of stuff we could be pulling from,” Director James Wan teased in his promo interview with IGN. He went on to add “I do have something specific but I’m not going to say it. But I will say this – I do think Conjuring 1 and 2 are both set in the ‘70s, I think Conjuring 3 has got to be set in the ‘80s.” So maybe Wan will return to the franchise to close out a trilogy after all.
The Conjuring 2 is currently in theaters everywhere.
