Recently, Warner Bros. had announced their plans to scale back original content and dive head first into franchise city! Yes that’s right, you’re going to have a whole bunch of franchises jammed right down your throat, because the general movie going public has vigorously lamented original content with their dollars. Anyway.. We have our next Lego franchise film coming february 2017 with Lego: Batman, and now we know what is next on the Lego front. We are officially getting a Ninjago movie and the voice cast has been announced. We know very little about Ninjago aside form the new voice cast, except that it’s set to come out between the Lego Batman film and The Lego Movie Sequel, which comes out in 2019.
Brickset.com is reporting that, at this years licensing expo, the cast for the film was released, and her is the lineup:
Jackie Chan is Master Wu
Dave Franco is Lloyd
Michael Peña is Kai
Abbi Jacobson is Nya
Kumail Nanjiani is Jay
Zach Woods is Zane
Fred Armisen is Cole
This is quite the eclectic mix talent, but still a great voice cast for a movie that will undoubtedly have mountains of charm. Fans of the Ninjago TV series will likely be a little somber to not see any of the voice talent make its way to the big screen, but i think the adjustment period will be brief. Brickset was also lucky enough to uncover the synopsis for the movie.
“Ninjago is the story of six young ninja tasked with defending their island home, called Ninjago. By night, they’re gifted warriors, using their skills and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters. By day, they’re ordinary teens struggling against their greatest enemy: high school.”
Dan and Kevin Hageman, the writers behind the Ninjago TV series on Cartoon Network, penned the screenplay with Bryan Shukoff and Kevin Chesley. TRON: Uprising’s Charlie Bean is directing the film with Phil Lord and Chris Miller Producing.
The Ninjago movie is due in theaters on September 22, 2017. Check out some of our recent write-ups for more from the world of LEGO.
