Ever since we heard there was going to be a Baywatch movie we were morbidly intrigued. No one will ever replace the Hoff, but The Rock is a pretty decent stand in. Paramount has spent a lot of time and energy to bring this film into fruition and the popularity and profitability of the 21 Jump Street movies is probably the biggest reason this was made. This is definitely in the same vein as the Jump street movies with a parody approach looking for a niche comedy tone.

The trailer is… Well it’s a admirable effort, but it just wasn’t all that good to be honest. Dwayne Johnson is pretty standardly generic, and Efron looks to be more of the same with his over the top antics from Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates and Dirty Grandpa (that guy needs a new agent). The problem is that all the big punchlines in the trailer weren’t that funny, and the most comedic moments all came from ancillary characters instead. Hopefully when the red band trailer drops we will get some bigger and more outlandish laughs, but this was pretty underwhelming as far as comedies go.
