Trailer Spotlight: Doctor Strange
This has been a week of trailers so far. Sunday saw our first look at Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and the second trailer for Suicide Squad. Well Tuesday brought us our first trailer for the highly anticipated Marvel film, Doctor Strange. The trailer for the film surrounding Stephen Strange, the lauded Surgeon who becomes disabled at the hands of a tragic car accident. While searching for meaning, the good doctor encounters The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who teaches Doctor Strange. The man becomes the Sorcerer Supreme, and has to battle an evil never seen before.
The trailer teases a psychedelic and wildly imaginative turn in the Marvel cinematic universe. The visuals are mind bendingly epic, and this is definitely a different tone than we are used to. It has the same color palette as the other Marvel films, but the tone is slightly darker, a little more serious, and dare we say, creepy? Director Scott Derrickson utilizes his horror background to bring us a much more serious film with horror undertones. We get our first glimpses into the characters, seeing Rachel McAdams as a colleague of Strange’s, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, a rival pupil of Tilda Swinton’s gender swapped Ancient One, and of course, the Sorcerer Supreme himself. We also get to see Mads Mikkelsen as an unnamed evil sorcerer that has broken off into his own sect. The trailer doesn’t reveal much in the way of plot, electing to be more of a teaser, giving us some cool visuals and some basic context into the characters, we do get a healthy dose of the main character though. All in all this is one great teaser, visually stunning, and ratchets up excitement for the film.
Doctor Strange is set to release November 4th this year. Check out the trailer below!
