Trailer Spotlight: Life

Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal are looking to kick up the summer season this May, with the upcoming Sci-Fi epic Life. The trailer for the film just dropped and it alludes to a claustrophobic space horror in the vein of the original alien. Directed by Daniel Espinosa’s (Child 44, Safe House) and written by the DeadPool tag team Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, this film was able to nab some big league talent, with two allstars in Reynolds and Gyllenhaal, complimented by fantastic support. The release date indicates that Sony has confidence in the project and trust that it will be a great addition to large scale Sci-Fi horror.

For the first look, this trailer bodes well for this film. It doesn’t appear to be wholly unique in it’s storytelling, but the visuals and performances alone could make this a worthwhile trip to the theater. The trailer seems to indicate some sort of body snatching plot, but it doesn’t give away too much. The crew of this space mission find life beyond earth, and it seems that lifeform is more malicious than originally perceived. The visuals look spectacular, and this has all the making of an amazing space epic. Where the worry sets in, is the narrative. This isn’t a new concept by any stretch, and trailer isn’t offering a fresh perspective, so this could pose some serious problems. That said, the writing tandem have proven their worth, and Espinosa is a serviceable filmmaker, so this could be a solid surprise.

Life also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare and Hiroyuki Sanada and hits theaters on Memorial Day weekend, May 26, 2017. Directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the producers are David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn.
