Bro Nation, Spiderman is a precious commodity in the movie universe. It seems to bring with it large amounts of cash, but also a bit of a stigma. It’s no secret Sony is in hot water, the email hack aired out all their dirty laundry, and we got a very desperate picture of a company in a tail spin. The Amazing Spiderman 2, while a total trainwreck, was financially successful making over 700 million dollars. Sony will likely hang on to the rights to the webslinger for dear life, clinging to it like the last vestiges of hope. They would even make a deal with the devil (Disney-Marvel Studios) to keep the cash flow present. As a result, we are now getting our 3rd iteration of spidey in the last 10 years. In a “what have you done for me lately” world, Marvel is the king of the superhero game, and Sony is now going to hitch its wagon to this behemoth and hope that some of the quality rubs off. Also they probably will be able to print their own money if they let Marvel produce a new stand alone and still get the profits.
With another reboot, comes another new Spiderman. The rumor mill has been a turnin’ and there has been a lot of speculation on who will be the next actor to don the suit. The news then broke that whoever it may be will likely be appearing in the upcoming Civil War on May 6th 2016. Then of course the swirling rumors that they were looking for a much younger actor to portray Spiderman in high school. So now what we are left with is the newest story courtesy of EL Mayimbe on his instagram page, that none other than Asa Butterfield will be the new Spiderman!
Asa Butterfield is not a sweet candy of some kind, he is a real actor and that is his real name. Keep in mind this is not under any circumstances, confirmed by Marvel or Sony. It’s reported that Butterfield is currently in negotiations to join the team and potentially be the newest Avenger. For those that are not familiar with the young actor, he was the star of Hugo and recently was in Ender’s Game. So Martin Scorsese seems to like the kid, and he has been very good in every film he’s been in to date, but is he a good fit for Spiderman? I wouldn’t think so to be honest. There were some rumors of actors like Nat Wolff (Fault in Our Stars) and Tom Holland, both of which I think would be able to handle the level of sarcasm needed to be Spiderman. That being said, it’s never a bad idea to recruit talent, and Butterfield is talented.
So what do you guys out in Bro Nation think about Asa Butterfield? You think he would be a good fit for the new Spiderman? Are you excited for the new Spiderman or are you fatigued from the constant rebooting? Drop a comment and let’s start a discussion.
