trans 2

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHY??!! Bro Nation, some bad news to report out of Paramount and Hasbro today. They have indeed confirmed that they will be moving forward with the Transformers franchise with a new film set to release in 2017. Not only that, but they have also announced that they have hired talented writer Akiva Goldsman (Cinderella Man, A Beautiful Man) to head up a team in hopes to develop a shared universe for Transformers. Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner had this to say regarding the news:

“We have in fact brought in Akiva Goldsman to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers. We think there are any number of stories to be told from the brand that has been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie to happen in 2017.”

No official word on whether or not Michael Bay will be back to direct, although he has hinted at the notion he will be back again. Also nothing officially announced that Mark Wahlberg will be back to reprise his role from Transformers 4, but his contracted had him signed on for several sequels so it’s likely they will bring him back for the 5th installment.

Much to Bro Knows dismay, Transformers 4 made an ungodly amount of money, like scratch your head type money… Seriously soooo much money, but that doesn’t mean that it was any god. Infact it was just the opposite, it was really, really bad. All film is of course subjective and maybe you’re someone who really like the last three Transformers films, but for the most part they have been widely panned.

Believe it or not there was a time when the announcement of a new Transformers film. The first film was actually a lot of fun, but the 3 following have gotten progressively worse. The problem here is that the decreasing quality has not resulted in diminishing box office returns. Transformers 4 made over a billion dollars last year! We get it, really it makes all the sense in the world to keep making these movies, but would it kill them to at least try and correct some of the issues and make a decent film?

Anyway what do you guys out in Bro Nation think? you excited for the prospect of a new Transformers? Drop a comment and let’s start a conversation!
